Serving the Platte Valley since 1888

Valley View has new name

As of February 1, 2013, Valley View Care Center has a new owner and will be called “Deseret Health and Rehab at Saratoga LLC.” Deseret Health Group is a provider of senior healthcare throughout the intermountain and midwest regions, including Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, Utah and Wyoming. It is committed to being a premier provider of long term health care throughout the heartland of America. Its programs, services, and facilities strive to serve and operate with superior quality in order to satisfy the needs of residents, their families, and the communities in which their facilities are located.

At Deseret Health and Rehab, residents enjoyed many activities throughout the week. The Activity Department offers a wide variety of activities each week to meet the residents’ interests, as well as the physical, mental and psychological well-being of each resident.

Games throughout the week provided fun and laughter. On Sunday morning Jeanette Baker and Frank Jereb played Wii Bowling. On Sunday afternoon, seven residents played Uno with Barbara Heater winning. On Monday afternoon, five residents played Crazy Eights. On Wednesday afternoon, 14 residents played Bingo, and on Friday afternoon, 12 residents played Bingo. Nadine Caleb and Jeanette Baker won Four Corners, and Truth Karstoft and Jeanette Baker won Blackouts. Our Bingo helpers were Joy Hamilton, Betty Dean, Lila Worden, Donna Erickson and Roxie Baldwin.

On Sunday afternoon, Doris Davis led our church service and played traditional religious music on the keyboard.

On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings, residents listened to Brenda Zeiger read from Debbie Macomber’s Summer on Blossom Street.

On Wednesday morning, Janice Kerpan and Mildred Hennek gave 10 ladies beautiful hairdos.

On Thursday afternoon, six residents helped Brenda Zeiger put up decorations for Valentine’s Day.

On Friday for Lunch Out at the Saratoga Senior Center, four residents had lasagna.

Evening activities included Turner Classic Movies: The 39 Steps on Sunday, The Mark of Zorro on Monday, The Italian Job on Tuesday, The Farmer’s Daughter on Wednesday, Cat Ballou on Thursday, Captain Blood on Friday, and Casablanca on Saturday. On Tuesday afternoon, residents watched the VCR movie, Murphy’s Romance.

We wish to thank Roxie Baldwin for the donation of candy for Bingo.

The Activity program relies on volunteers to enhance residents’ lives. If interested, please call 326-8212 and ask for the Activity Director, Tom Mansfield.
