The Panther wrestlers hosted a wrestling meet Thursday. The grapplers put 10 men on the mat, and although not everyone had wins, the wrestlers were obviously fired up. The meet was a Quadrangular, more of a practice than a regular meet, and the results don’t count toward conference records, only personal records. Nonetheless, the grapplers had 36 matches and won 24 of them.
“When you get to wrestle at home only once or twice a year, it’s pretty easy to get excited to wrestle at home,” coach Jared Mason said during the meet
Six wrestlers won all of their matches by pin. Daynon Mowery, at 106 lbs., Chaze Wiant, at 113 lbs., and Lionzo Escobedo, wrestling at 138 lbs., beat all of their opponents. These wrestlers combined for 11 of the 24 wins.
Bradley Bifano, Tate Stinson and Thatcher Spiering won all their matches, eight by pin and three by decision. Marshal Hill, at 138 lbs., and Trey Ingelby, at 120, combined for four wins and dropped three matches between the two of them.
The wrestlers in the heavier weight classes had a tougher go in the meet. Levi Weatherd, at 195 lbs., Hazer Hinkle and Jacob Wells, at 220, wrestled at heavy weight again this week, couldn’t find wins against their opponents.
North Park, Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow and class 4A Laramie fielded wrestlers and all the grapplers competed in more than one match.
“It was a good night to wrestle at home finally,” Mason said. “The kids were aggressive and having fun. That’s what it’s all about.”
The wrestlers were scheduled to compete in Greybull over the weekend but, according to Mason, the wrestlers took the weekend off and did not travel. Up next for the Panthers are the Southeast Duals in Veteran on Feb. 2 at 9:30 a.m.
