The Saratoga Search and Rescue will put on it’s fifth annual Poker Run Jan. 26. The poker run started in 2009 and brings in up to 100 participants annually.
Jennifer German, on organizer Marty Huntley’s behalf, said, “We have a steady turn out every year. It all depends on the weather and last year, it was so cold we just played the hands at the trailer.”
The run will start at the chain’s end parking lot at 10 a.m. with an entry fee of $20 and additional hands for $15. Half of the money raised will go to the pay outs of first, second and third places as well as the high and low hands. Funds from the other half of the pot directly benefit the Search and Rescue organization. They use the money for training and equipment. Door prizes donated by local businesses will be given out.
Lunch is provided by Valley Foods and will be cooked by the Saratoga Volunteer Fire Department.
The poker run starts at chain’s end on Hwy 130 with the first stop at the Quealy warming hut. Participants will next check in at the junction of trails X and M on trail N. The fourth check point will be at the Turpin Junction. Participants will finish at the chain’s end parking lot. The last hands will be dealt at 2 p.m.
Anyone interested in participating in the annual run are reminded to bring their own snow machines and can also snowshoe or ski the route.
