Encampment police chief resigns

Encampment Police Chief Nick Finer gave the Encampment council a letter of resignation at their meeting Jan. 10.

Finer said he flew when he was in the Army and was resigning to pursue a career in aviation. His last day will be Jan. 31.

Town clerk Doreen Harvey reported the town of Encampment had reached a fully executed emergency water services agreement to build an an emergency water connection between Encampment and the Sierra Madre Water and Sewer Joint Powers Board (SMWSJPB).

Project engineer Ken Schwerdt said work on the design would likely begin in early February and be ready for early summer construction. The council approved a motion to move forward with design of the project.

The emergency connection will provide access to water both ways so in the event of an emergency, Encampment and SMWSJPB would have access to the other’s water system.

“It’s not for any permanent use at all, it’s just in case something catastrophic happens,” Mayor Greg Salisbury said.

The council approved a motion to grant Margaret Weber a catering permit to provide liquor for Casino Night pending an approval letter from the Riverside Town Council.

Salisbury swore in two new council members, Kimberly Loftice and Steve Reichert.

The two new members replace Irene Archibald and Lynn Acord.
