Residents enjoy Christmas party

At Valley View, residents enjoyed many activities throughout the week. The Activity Department offers a wide variety of activities each week to meet the residents’ interests, as well as the physical, mental, and psychological well-being of each resident.

We had our annual resident Christmas party on Thursday and had 56 family members, volunteers, and friends of Valley View at the party. Jeff Streeter was our Santa and passed out Christmas presents that were bought and wrapped by the Kiwanis. We wish to thank the town of Saratoga for helping us get the 13 tables and 60 chairs that we borrowed from the Platte Valley Christian Center.

Games throughout the week provided fun and laughter. On Monday afternoon, six residents played Horse Racing with June Wenger winning. On Wednesday afternoon, nine residents played Bingo, and on Friday afternoon, 13 residents played Bingo. Jeannie James and Mae Harris won Four Corners. Jeannie James, Barbara Heater, and Carol Higby won Blackouts. Our Bingo helpers were Betty Dean, Joy Hamilton, Roxie Baldwin, Loretta Loose, and Lila Worden.

On Sunday afternoon, the Encampment Community Choir gave us a Christmas concert.

On Monday evening, Tasha Michelson took five residents on a van ride around town to see the Christmas lights.

On Wednesday morning, Janice Kerpan and Janet Hales gave nine ladies beautiful hairdos.

On Wednesday evening at supper, Teense Willford sang and played country western music on his guitar.

On Friday, one resident had roast beef and birthday cake for Lunch Out at the Saratoga Senior Center.

Evening activities included Monday Night Football:  the New York Jets at the Tennessee Titans, and Turner Classic Movies (Channel 44):  A Carol for Another Christmas on Sunday, The Good Old Summertime  on Tuesday, Double Indemnity on Wednesday, The Love Parade on Friday and Rebel Without a Cause on Saturday. On Tuesday afternoon, residents watched the VCR movie, Elf.

We wish to thank the PMPC, Joy Hamilton and Janice Kerpan for the financial donations. We would also like to thank the V.S.O., Connie Hood, Dennis and Jan Cook, Mayvonne Platte, the Mariners, and Valley Foods for resident Christmas presents. Also, we wish to thank the Rebekkah Lodge for the financial donation to Bingo.

The Activity program relies on volunteers to enhance residents’ lives. If interested, please call 326-8212 and ask for the Activity Director, Tom Mansfield.
