Saratoga wrestling hosted the Carbon County Invite last weekend with eleven teams competing. Coach Rusty Arnold felt that the team overall wrestled, ‘pretty well. Saratoga’s two seniors, Tuker Carricato and Douglass Campbell were recognized on Friday night for their t...

Since then, Encampment has fallen to Valley and conference rival the Saratoga Panthers and a lost non-conference matchup against the Upton Bobcats. The Tigers would lose three more conference matchups against the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers, the Farson-Eden Pronghorns and the Cokeville Panthers. So far the Tigers have been winless in conference p...

They’ve won four of their last five duals – all by double figures – to improve to 7-6 on the season and 5-4 in Big 12 action. The late-season push has positioned Wyoming to have its best season, in terms of win percentage, since 2018-19. And whi...
The Encampment Lady Tigers dominated the first three-quarters of their rematch with the Saratoga Lady Panthers. Saratoga attempted to steal the game with under two minutes left in the 4th quarter. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the Lady Tigers had a 15-point lead but the Lady Panthers turned it into a catfight. They reduced the deficit to 12 points midway through the 4th quarter and, in the final minutes, Saratoga was down by 2 points but it was too late the Lady Panthers could not make their...
Saratoga Panthers freshman Griffin Barlett made his return to the Panther Den for the first time since January 5th. It could not have happened at a better time as the Panthers got a 70-52 win over their valley rival the Encampment Tigers. Bartlett had been battling with an illness but joined the team on the road against Cokeville and Farson-Eden. He received a loud cheer from the home crowd when the announcer called out his name. “It is so amazing to be back and to play on our home court,” Bar...

The Ron Thon wrestling tournament in Riverton was as tough as expected. Over forty schools and 1,000 wrestlers competed for the top spot at the podium, and Panther wrestling had a weekend highlighted by some ‘great wins and tough losses,’ according to head coach Rusty Arnold. Four wrestlers returned from injury to compete in the tournament, and were understandably not in top form. The majority of the competition were from 3A and 4A schools, which made the hill a harder than normal one to cli...

Lady Tigers vs. Lady Cyclones The Lady Tigers were handed a tough loss by Southeast, 44-30. The Lady Cyclones simply outplayed Encampment in the second half of the game and the Lady Tigers had no answers to stop Southeast’s high power offense. In the 1st quarter, both the Encampment and the L...
It has been said that streaks were meant to be broken and the Saratoga Panthers unfortunately were reminded of that quote on Friday while on the road. Saratoga faced another breed of Panther in Cokeville, who came out on top in a 76-60 win. In many ways it was no surprise to Jason Williams, Saratoga Panther head coach, that a trip to Cokeville is never an easy ride. However the Panthers took a split the following day as they beat the Farson-Eden Pronghorns 67-66. “The Cokeville/Farson road t...
It has been a tough season for the Saratoga Lady Panthers and a lot had to do with injuries and illness. The Lady Panthers also had to face some tough competition in their schedule and the Cokeville Lady Panthers are no exception. Saratoga fell to Cokeville 60-37 on the road Friday night. However, the Lady Panthers got redemption when they finally got their first conference win of the year against Farson-Eden Lady Pronghorns 54-45. Heather Bartlett, head coach of the Saratoga Lady Panthers,...
The Encampment Tigers were down by 8 points at the end of the 3rd quarter on Friday against the Southeast Cyclones. Then, they let out a huge roar. In the 4th quarter Kaben Pickett and Gunner Henrie both made some key defensive plays to get to the free throw line to win the game against the Southeast Cyclones. Both the Tigers and Cyclones gave it all they got where both teams either took the lead back and forth or tail from behind. In the end, the Encampment found a way to slow down Southeast in...
The Saratoga Panthers put on a dominant performance against the Encampment Tigers on the road. Everything went right for the Panthers both on offense and defense and it showed. Saratoga stepped up when they needed to and got a 73-65 win. For the majority of the game, the Panthers were leading as high as 15 points. But Encampment for most of the game was playing catch up but was able to make the game close late in the 4th quarter. In the end, it was Saratoga freshman Griffin Barlett who, despite...

Saratoga took an early lead but the Lady Tigers quickly tied the game at 2-2. Less than five minutes into the 1st quarter, both teams turned it into a slug fest. “I couldn’t be more proud of my girls,” said Kevin Pantle, head coach of the Encampment Lady Tigers. “I knew they had it in th...
Things did not go right for the Saratoga Lady Panthers as they fell to the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Lady Rattlers, 44-23, giving them their second straight league loss. The visiting Lady Rattlers came into Friday night’s contest confident and determined as they dominated Saratoga. The LSRV defense kept the Lady Panthers in check for three of the four quarters, although the Lady Rattlers had a slow start in the 1st quarter and their free throws could have been better. The Lady Rattlers we...
The SMHS wrestling squad traveled to Lander last weekend, missing much of it’s squad, to compete in both a varsity and JV tournament. According to coach Rusty Arnold, ‘Injury has been following us around the last couple weeks. We only traveled with five kids due to injury.’ The team should have more wrestlers return for this weekend’s Ron Thon tournament in Riverton, dependent upon medical clearance. Two wrestlers were entered in the Lander varsity tournament, Ace Arnold at 106, and Josiah Stockwell at 113. Both wrestlers brought home a 6th p...

These activities encourage students to work hard to keep their grades up. “Our older kids get to set their own g...
The Panther grapplers began the wrestling weekend by competing in Walden on Thursday against Soroco and North Park. It was a tune-up for the upcoming weekend tournament, and the Panthers had a good showing. Ace Arnold, Josiah Stockwell, and Douglass Campbell all were 1 – 0. Tuker Carricato was 2 – 0, Chase Brown went 1 -1, and both Ben Miller and Atom Linsey were 0 – 2 on the evening. The big blast of Winter weather that settled in last week put a freeze on the high school sports schedule for Encampment and Saratoga schools. The SMHS wrestling team did have a full weekend, participating in a three-team match in Walden on Friday, then in a tournament in Pavillion on Saturday. See Jason Campbell’s outstanding coverage and photos on page B1. The Saratoga boy’s and girl’s basketball games scheduled for Saturday were not played. No details on rescheduling were available when we went to press. Although the Encampment game on Fr...
The Encampment Lady Tigers had one of the few games unaffected by descent into subzero temperatures and snowfall over the weekend as they hosted the Farson-Eden Lady Pronghorns. “We came out super flat and gave up a 13-point lead,” said Kevin Pantle, head coach of the Encampment Lady Tigers. “I think the girls got nervous, we had not played a game since Rock River and I think it showed”. Pantle said the Lady Tigers made an effort to make a comeback and at times got the game close but in the end...
While Old Man Winter’s subzero temperatures canceled a number of games over the weekend, the Encampment Tigers hosted the Farson-Eden Pronghorns for their first conference game of the season. Prior to the game on January 13, the Pronghorns were ranked at No. 4, just behind Encampment with Farson-Eden 5-4 for the season and the Tigers 7-3. Despite cold temperatures, Saturday’s game showed that nothing can be taken for granted in the competitive 1A Southwest Conference as things begin to heat up...
The SMHS wrestling team traveled to Shoshoni for a dual tournament, which brought mixed results. Shoshoni is one of the few events in the state that doesn’t use digital scoring and recording, so all of the results and match records come via the work of volunteer parents. The teams are also mixed as athletes are traded to fill empty weight classes on other teams. SMHS itself had a few athletes from other teams compete as Panthers for several duals. Saratoga had duals against Wyoming Indian, B...
There was a battle of big cats at Saratoga High School Friday night, when the Cougars of Wind River visited the local Lady Panthers. Wind River brought along an aggressive full court press defense, that they employed from the opening jump to the final whistle. The Lady Panthers were playing up in class against 2A Wind River and came out on the short side of a 62-41 final score. Coach Heather Bartlett was not disappointed by the game noting that playing the larger school, and experiencing the...
