On November 4, for one day only, the hot springs at the Saratoga Hot Springs Resort weren’t the only things heating up. In the Saratoga Room, just past the Silver Saddle Room, five couples learned Argentinian Tango. The class, which was taught by Amy Beaudet and Ilya Lisenker, was sponsored by the Platte Valley Arts Council. “When I first got onto the Platte Valley Arts Council, it came up as a possibility of bringing tango to the Valley. I think one of the long-time mem...
The famed author and satirist Mark Twain once said “write what you know.” Former Saratoga local and author Sarah “S.E.” Reichert did just that with the Sweet Valley series, her newest romance trilogy. Reichert, a graduate of Saratoga High School, spoke at the Saratoga Branch Library on November 21 to a group of dedicated fans about her newest series which begins with “Raising Elle,” released in May 2023. No Place Like Home “The book is loosely based in the Valley and I think i...
Since the beginning of America we have always been willing to fight for what we believe in. Starting from the patriots of the late 1700’s fighting the Red Coats to create a new home, to our military battling terrorists for the past twenty years, America has never failed to inspire me. To me, to be inspiring means that you are strong, independent, and brave. These are all qualities of America and that is why the U.S is an inspiration to me. America is young but we are one of the most feared countries in the entire world. E...
There is no patriot more noble than the American soldier. Whether active duty or a veteran, they are the physical embodiment of the word patriotism and a great representation of our democratic values. They have enough pride and love for America to give themselves to its cause. They are willing to sacrifice everything, to pay any price, and to bear any burden to defend the American ideals of liberty and equality whenever and wherever those inalienable rights may be challenged. They are willing to put their lives on the line fo...

Wyoming Highway 130 through the high country of the Snowy Range has officially closed for the season. Due to drifting and blowing snow, Wyoming Department of Transportation crews in Laramie and Saratoga decided current road conditions warranted closing the section of WYO 130 for the season. Also known as the Snowy Range Scenic Byway, the 12-mile section of WYO 130 tops out at more than 10,800 ft. in elevation and closes annually each fall when lack of travel and deep snow accumulations make plowing the highway impractical. Th...

On the night of November 9, downtown Saratoga resembled something similar to a Hallmark movie as people milled in and out of businesses with shopping bags in tow as they participated in the inaugural Jingle Mingle. The shopping event was sponsored and developed by the Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce and its CEO, Amanda Knotwell. According to Knotwell, the idea of the Jingle Mingle first began in September. “I was out visiting businesses and stopped in to Strong T...

Driving down 1st Street you will see coats hanging from a tree in the yard of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. This unique ministry began last year when someone told Virginia Parker that they had seen three men walking to work in below zero weather without coats. Sensing a need in the community Ms. Parker enlisted the help of her sister, Ginger Peters, and they began to visit area thrift stores buying all of the winter coats they could find. Initially they handed those coats...

As Christmas approaches, there is no better way to kick off the holiday season and get the entire family excited about the approaching fun and festivities than with an advent calendar. For over a century, celebrants have marked the days before Christmas and enjoyed a daily treat, with advent calendars. Fun thematic twists on this tradition have included everything from games and puzzles for kids to dog chews for furry friends. Of course, in the modern era, there are now...
As we enter the holiday season and Americans across the country look forward to spending time with family, thousands of service members deployed overseas – many to the Middle East in response to the Israel-Hamas war – will not have that luxury and will be spending the holidays far away from loved ones. Here is how USO Holidays programming delivers a piece of home to them, along with ideas for how you can get involved: - Care packages: A care package might seem small in lig...

Fishy Finances via Text: A Laramie resident recently received a text message from an unknown number, with the sender claiming to be Amy from Merchant Funding. In the message, “Amy” stated that they had pre-approved credit lines available for the citizen’s company and asked, in poorly written language, “How much could you be looking for?” The message raised suspicions due to the unprofessional grammar and the fact that the sender’s identity was unknown. CyberWyoming Note: When in doubt, throw it out! Suspicious text messag...
As a father of 8 children, I have read my share of Dr. Seuss books. The “Cat in the Hat” reminds me to keep my kids active otherwise they may get into mischief, and to be very careful who I let influence my children. As a Pastor, the movie “Horton Hears a Who” has some great spiritual lessons that we can draw out; everyone is important, everyone is worthy to be saved, and providing for and protecting the less fortunate. Dr. Seuss’ real name is Theodor Seuss Geisel. He wrote over 60 books and at the time of his death had...
The Saratoga branch of RNB State Bank recently presented checks totalling $600 to members of the community. On November 3, two checks for $200 each were presented to two Valley non-profit organizations and one check for $200 was presented to Liandro Escobedo. The presentation of the check to Escobedo was due to his success in a recent program called “Saving Makes Cents” in which people were asked to guess the amount of pennies in a jar. “We just decided to select a jar, fill...

John Barrasso and Cynthia Lummis, both R-Wyo., sent a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) regarding the agency’s proposed minimum staffing standards in nursing homes. As a medical Provider in Carbon County I take particular interest in the biblical references when our Savior Jesus Christ healed infirmities and raised people from the dead. Jesus is our “Master Healer”. For example the miracle when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead just amazes me and is a wonderful example of God’s love for us! In Luke 17 the story is told of Jesus traveling to Jerusalem when “ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off…lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. When he saw them,...
The same struggle of employee shortages plaguing emergency call centers around the nation will also soon impact the Saratoga Police Department, which already has a small staff of dispatch workers. At the November 7 meeting of the Saratoga Town Council, Chief Mike Morris told the council that he would soon be down to only two full-time dispatchers. The typical amount of dispatch staff for his department is four full-time employees. Dispatch Shortage “We’re running into a lit...

Other aspects could be inc...
