    Folk duo Otter Creek will entertain Valley residents starting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19 at the Platte Valley Community Center. Prior to their performance, Peter and Mary Danzig will be working with third and fourth grade students from both Saratoga Elementary and Encampment Schools to compose a verse to a well-known song which will be performed that evening.   • High Plains Powwow dances into fourth year

    The Carbon County Museum will host its fourth annual High Plains Powwow on Saturday at the Carbon County Fairgrounds in Rawlins. This Northern Plains-style dance competition is a rich and immersive opportunity to experience Native American Indian culture.     With summer winding down, Encampment is throwing one last outdoor festival before locals hole back up and the snowbirds again fly south to warmer climes.     Twenty-six bullriders competed in Saturday night's 2016 Saratoga Bullfest, with only one man riding in both the long and short rounds. Zeke Mora, of Colorado, walked away from Buck Springs arena with over $12,000 of prize money and a trophy buckle after he was the only bullrider to ride his bulls during Saturday's event.     This year, the Grand Encampment Cowboy Gathering (GECG) Outfit selected Karen and Alden Condict as their 2016 County Pioneers. Alden R. Condict was born on the ranch, on the last day of 1927. He has lived and worked on the ranch all of his life. He is very involved with the cattle and horses. At an early age he took a keen interest in the ranch’s water and water rights, continuing to fine tune the system, taking great pride in getting all of the land possible irrigated.
