A documentary film crew made a stop in Saratoga Friday in pursuit of cowboy poet and Saratoga cowboy Daron Little. According to producer of the film, Mike Day of Intrepid Cinema, the crew has been keeping up with Little for just about a year, with filming having started in November 2016. The crew followed Little into Saratoga last year, and this time the three-person film crew wound up following the local cowboy poet into Valley Foods. The official State of Wyoming Microbrew Competition will be held Aug. 19 in Saratoga. Microbreweries from across Wyoming are slated to compete for the coveted Steinley Cup at the 22nd annual competition. The Platte Valley Arts Council will be holding the first annual Toy Tractor Display Show and Competition as part of Encampment’s Copper Days Festival. The show will be held in the livery stable of the Grand Encampment Museum from 2 -5 p.m., September 9. There is no cost to see the toy displays or to enter the competition. Nineteen people gathered at the Saratoga Museum Saturday morning to take a trek out to Emigrant’s Crossing. Local historian and Valley chronicler, Dick Perue, gave a short overview of the trip to come and handed out flyers detailing events that occurred and people having had interactions in the area. The Grand Encampment Museum (GEM) hosted another of its speaker series events at the Grand Encampment Opera House Thursday. Valley residents and visitors attending the talk learned about the trial of Tom Horn with speaker John Davis, an attorney and historical author from Worland. Davis’ most recent book, published in March by the University of Oklahoma press, is about the famous trial. King Coal days started Friday with a community barbecue, baseball games and Texas Hold-em poker games and wrapped up Sunday with Mud Drags. There was a lot in between. The Grand Encampment Museum is sponsoring three free presentations. The first, on the Trial of Tom Horn, will be presented by John W. Davis on Thursday, July 27. William Lee Golden, Duane Allen, Richard Sterben and Joe Bosnall-known as the Oak Ridge Boys-came to the Platte Valley Community Center (PVCC) to benefit local charities on Saturday. "Fashion, fur, fine art," said Laura Morrow when asked to describe her store Laura M Gallery on 102 West Bridge Avenue. The business celebrated 20 years of being open although the location has changed several times in Saratoga. Born in Crawford, Nebraska, she was raised mostly in Cheyenne, although she did spend two years of elementary school in Medicine Bow. A youth baseball program similar to the Utah Jazz basketball program is coming to Carbon County. The Salt Lake Bees will be sponsoring the program. The Salt Lake Bees, headquartered in Salt Lake City, are a triple-A affiliate of the Major League Baseball Anaheim Angels. Kids pre-kindergarten to sixth grade are encouraged to come sign up and teams will be set based on age ranges.
