Residents and visitors to Encampment were treated to a talk about an important figure in the American West, Kit Carson, Thursday at The Encampment Opera House. The talk wrapped up a series of three talks held as part of the Grand Encampment Museum’s (GEM) speaker series, and was delivered by Valley resident and historian John Farr. John Russo had 10 professional gun trainers out at the Spur Outfitters pistol range Sunday to teach the Advanced Defensive Pistol course. Fourteen students with skill levels ranging from never having fired a gun to fairly proficient attended the course in the proper defensive use of a semi-automatic pistol. Residents and visitors to the town of Riverside were treated to a night out with neighbors and friends at the town's Riverside Party Day. The event, held in Riverside town park, was sponsored by the town of Riverside and the Carbon County Visitors Council. A horsemanship clinic to be held Friday-Saturday in Encampment will offer Valley equestrians the chance to learn more about what their horse’s body language is telling them, and what riders’ body language tells the horse. The Saratoga Museum held its fifth annual C.J. Box Trivia Night Fundraiser Saturday at the Platte Valley Community Center. The fundraiser brought in money for the museum and brought to town famous Wyoming author, and former Saratoga Sun reporter, C.J. Box. The official State of Wyoming Microbrew Competition will be held Aug. 19 in Saratoga. Microbreweries from across Wyoming are slated to compete for the coveted Steinley Cup at the 22nd annual competition. A documentary film crew made a stop in Saratoga Friday in pursuit of cowboy poet and Saratoga cowboy Daron Little. According to producer of the film, Mike Day of Intrepid Cinema, the crew has been keeping up with Little for just about a year, with filming having started in November 2016. The crew followed Little into Saratoga last year, and this time the three-person film crew wound up following the local cowboy poet into Valley Foods. The Grand Encampment Museum (GEM) hosted another of its speaker series events at the Grand Encampment Opera House Thursday. Valley residents and visitors attending the talk learned about the trial of Tom Horn with speaker John Davis, an attorney and historical author from Worland. Davis’ most recent book, published in March by the University of Oklahoma press, is about the famous trial. Nineteen people gathered at the Saratoga Museum Saturday morning to take a trek out to Emigrant’s Crossing. Local historian and Valley chronicler, Dick Perue, gave a short overview of the trip to come and handed out flyers detailing events that occurred and people having had interactions in the area. "Fashion, fur, fine art," said Laura Morrow when asked to describe her store Laura M Gallery on 102 West Bridge Avenue. The business celebrated 20 years of being open although the location has changed several times in Saratoga. William Lee Golden, Duane Allen, Richard Sterben and Joe Bosnall-known as the Oak Ridge Boys-came to the Platte Valley Community Center (PVCC) to benefit local charities on Saturday.
