    The Hanna Miner Memorial Recreation Center was built in 1984 by the Carbon County Coal Company. It was state of the art at the time with racquetball courts, basketball courts, weight room and a pool that was just shy of being an Olympic size pool. The land was purchased initially to build a large hall for the Fraternal Order of Eagles. For unknown reasons that construction never began and one year later the land was sold to A.     Every year the Head Start program gives turkeys to the families enrolled in the program. These turkeys are usually bought through the generosity of Sinclair Oil. Depending on the remaining funds available, families would receive a food basket with non-perishable items that can be used all year long.     The towns of Medicine Bow, Hanna and Elk Mountain have been collecting non-perishable food items for the past month to distribute to 24 families. The Girl Scouts have been doing drives and their efforts paid off. To enter the haunted house at the Hanna Recreation Center on Halloween, a donation of a can or package of non-perishable food was given.     The Platte Valley Ministerial Association invites everyone to the Community Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, November 20th at 5:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Saratoga. The ecumenical service is an annual tradition and is the major fundraising event for the Ministerial Association.     Two Medicine Bow churches are joining forces on Sunday, November 20 to co-host a community Thanksgiving feast for the entire community. The two churches, Chapel on the Plains and Wind City Church, want to express thanks for God’s bountiful blessings by coming together to share this meal.
