As part of our Thanksgiving project, the club collected canned goods and food items for the Platte Valley Food Pantry. Members have been preparing for Christmas, and buying Christmas gifts for all the residents at Deseret Health Care and Rehab. We will be gift wrapping Dec. 17 along with a carry-in dinner. The nursing home will give our gifts at their party, Dec. 19. The chairpersons for the project are Barbara Youngberg and Valerie Mason. Friday is the deadline to deliver gifts to Town & Country Realty for the Valley Service Organization’s 2013 Giving Tree. “We are still accepting family gifts like movies and board games,” Town & Country’s Administrative Assistant Mary Martin said. All of the tags have been spoken for which were on the tree. The gifts should be delivered unwrapped, said Carol Sherrod, with the VSO. Another local Christmas-based Giving Tree has recently been created, but this time with the goal to help needy homeless animals in Carbon County. Platte Valley Ranch Supply in Saratoga set up its first annual "Pets in Need Giving Tree", meant to benefit temporarily homeless animals living at Caring, Learning, Connecting Rescue and Rehabilitation (CLCRR) in Rawlins, or the Rawlins Rochelle Animal Shelter. Daniel and Amanda Batteiger are pleased to announce the birth of their second son, William Felix Batteiger, born November 8, 2013, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Hi, everybody! Well it appears winter is here and so is the awful time change. I hope I’m not the only one who has trouble adjusting to it. We had a great birthday and anniversary dinner Oct. 18, and would like to thank Debbie Easterling, Janet Zahn, and JR Hensley for the great entertainment. The local American Legion Auxiliary of Saratoga covered charitable contributions and upcoming events at their most recent meeting Oct. 15. Membership stands at 33 members with 10 more needed to meet the first milestone by Nov. 11. Ladies should get their dues paid so the goal can be made early this year. Thirty-three dozen cookies were sent to Cheyenne for the VA Hospital patients. We had our Carnival on Oct. 25. It was games, prizes, candy, cookies, and the cake walk for the kids of the Valley. We want to thank all the people who helped us—Janice Kerpan, Connie Patterson, Lila Worden, Jill Martin, Kim Givens, Pastor Gene Smith, Roxie Baldwin, Elder Clay, Elder Young, our Administrator, Dave Doorn, and our staff.
