The Hotel Wolf was standing room only most of Friday night as customers and friends came to celebrate with the Campbells the 120th anniversary of the Hotel Wolf. The Campbells have owned the Wolf for 37 years. The Saratoga/Encampment Spelling Bee was held Jan. 27 in the Saratoga Middle School Cafeteria. Eleven students, ranging from fourth to eighth grade, showed off their spelling abilities. For the first portion of the Bee, students were told to write out 50 words. After the students passed the writing portion, the oral part of the Bee began. The Encampment kindergarten class is participating in Encampment's homecoming activities by wearing pajamas on Pajama Day Monday. This is not the first time they have worn pajamas to school. Two Saratoga speech team performers received first place in the duet category at the recent Kelly Walsh Speech and Debate Meet in Casper. The Carbon County School District No. 2 Speech Team returned from last weekend’s speech meet with feathers in the cap. Head coach Brenda Ostendorf said she was proud of her team as they beat two 4A schools at the meet in Evanston. Ostendorf said the Evanston meet did not classify 1A/2A schools. “They had big schools and small schools, and the small schools were much bigger than ours.” Although the team did not return with a trophy they did return with some high compliments from the judges. Encampment School’s homecoming week kicked off Monday and have a packed schedule of school activities. Encampment will hold five dress up days this week including Pajama Day, Funeral Day, Survivor Day, Zombie Day and Red and Black Day. With only their second try and a creative recipe on hand, two young chefs from Encampment School won the Taco John's Culinary Competition held in November. Students Matthew Jarrett and Brett Ralston revamped their entry from last year to submit their "fiery cornbread bites" for the competition, which took place Nov. 20 at the Taco John's restaurant headquarters in Cheyenne.
