The American Legion Auxiliary met at 6:30 pm on Dec. 17, 2013 at the Post Home. It was reported that the food raffles are going well with the last two to be held in January 2014. This project is for the Christmas year round for the VA Hospitals. Discussion was held about the concessions for the Fishing Derby in January 2014. Reaching nearly $3,000 over their original goal, Saratoga Elementary students raised more than $8,000 last week to support the American Heart Association. The students participated in both "Jump Rope for Heart" and "Hoops for Heart", which are fundraisers that support the AHA. In those programs people contribute a certain amount of money for each jump or shot made into a basketball hoop, and the money goes toward the AHA. To help with the Platte Valley Habitat Partnership (PVHP) Mule Deer Initiative, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department recently assigned Katie Cheesbrough as its new terrestrial habitat biologist. Cheesbrough grew up in Laramie, and has been recreating in the mountains and rivers of the Upper North Platte Valley for most of her life.
