The Carbon County School District No. 2 Speech Team returned from last weekend’s speech meet with feathers in the cap. Head coach Brenda Ostendorf said she was proud of her team as they beat two 4A schools at the meet in Evanston. Ostendorf said the Evanston meet did not classify 1A/2A schools. “They had big schools and small schools, and the small schools were much bigger than ours.” Although the team did not return with a trophy they did return with some high compliments from the judges. The Hotel Wolf was standing room only most of Friday night as customers and friends came to celebrate with the Campbells the 120th anniversary of the Hotel Wolf. The Campbells have owned the Wolf for 37 years. With only their second try and a creative recipe on hand, two young chefs from Encampment School won the Taco John's Culinary Competition held in November. Students Matthew Jarrett and Brett Ralston revamped their entry from last year to submit their "fiery cornbread bites" for the competition, which took place Nov. 20 at the Taco John's restaurant headquarters in Cheyenne. As part of our Thanksgiving project, the club collected canned goods and food items for the Platte Valley Food Pantry. Members have been preparing for Christmas, and buying Christmas gifts for all the residents at Deseret Health Care and Rehab. We will be gift wrapping Dec. 17 along with a carry-in dinner.
