    Rhett Sebastian Diaz was born Jan. 31, 2014 in Laramie. He weighed 8 lbs and 10 oz, and was 20.5 inches long. Parents are Laura Sanches and Mac Diaz.   • Students raise $8,000...and principal

    Reaching nearly $3,000 over their original goal, Saratoga Elementary students raised more than $8,000 last week to support the American Heart Association. The students participated in both "Jump Rope for Heart" and "Hoops for Heart", which are fundraisers that support the AHA. In those programs people contribute a certain amount of money for each jump or shot made into a basketball hoop, and the money goes toward the AHA.     Amber Williams, of Saratoga Middle School, placed second at the Carbon County Spelling Bee this past Wednesday and brought home two trophies.     The Upper Valley Search and Rescue sold 261 poker hands Sunday at the 16th Annual Ben Romios Memorial Poker Run. A total of $2,610 was brought in from the hands, in addition to other money that was donated toward the event. Six prize money gifts were given to three high winners and three low winners.     The search for enough Certified Nursing Assistants to well-equip nursing homes, hospitals and other medical facilities is still an ongoing battle, even in the Platte Valley. Merlynn Hoopes, RN, program director and instructor of the CNA class, said she has always seen a need for more CNAs in the nearly 50 years she has spent in nursing.
