There were four here for Bridge this week. We will be open on New Year’s Day as usual. We will be serving grilled ham and cheese sandwich and tomato soup. The rest of the meal is still up in the air, but it will be good. We would like to thank Jane Johnston for the beautiful flowers she sent for all the tables. We did have a drawing to see who would get to take a boot home and enjoy them because we are going to be gone for five days now and I was afraid they would be dead when we returned. So there were eight people who took...
Well, this will come out on the last day of the year — man did it ever go fast. There are so many people to thank, so here it goes (and if I forget anyone, please don’t take it personally.) First I want to thank all our volunteers that help us on a daily basis. Without you we would not run as smoothly. A great-big thank you to the seniors here for the new dishwasher. It is wonderful. Thanks to Brad Hebig and Phil Fleming for putting the Christmas lights on our rather large tree in front of the center. It lit up the town. Tha...
1 Years Ago Dec. 31, 1914 Nobody knows just how many poor simps are running loose in this world but the editor. No one knows how many people are running loose with the main spring broke, but the editor. Nobody knows how many men are running around with just gray matter enough in their heads to keep them out of asylums and pens. If there is any one thing that an editor does know, it is the character of the majority of the humans with which he comes in contact with every day. It would surprise the public to know, just how...

1 Years Ago Dec. 17, 1914 Day before yesterday a perfectly nice lady called us up and with tears in her voice reproved us for not mentioning the fact that she had a friend visiting her last week. We told her that she did not let us know anything about it, and that therefore, we did not know she had a visitor. Then she said, “Well you should have known. I thought you were running a newspaper.” Wouldn’t that rattle your slats? Some people think that an editor ought to be a cross between Argus and Anna Eva Fay. They seem to th...

1 Years Ago Dec. 3, 1914 The editor of a paper in another county states that one day he picked up a Winchester and started down the street to deliver it to its owner. The delinquent subscribers got it into their heads that he was on the war-path, and everyone he met insisted on paying what he owed to the editor. One man wiped out a debt of ten years standing. On his return to the office he found a load of hay, fifteen bushels of potatoes, a load of wood and a barrel of turnips. Will someone please lend us a gun? 75 Years...

1 Years Ago Nov. 12, 1914 The Tribune has been asked the meaning of the “maverick vote,” which in close contests sometimes affects the result. The term maverick vote is a mere popular or slang term applied to a Wyoming statute by which an elector who is absent from his home voting precinct on election day, may, by following a certure, cast his vote for any office under consideration. Briefly such an elector must obtain from the registration officers of the precinct showing his right to vote, with other details nec...
