  • Hill chooses NROTC

    Liz Wood|May 20, 2015

Marshal Hill had options. Go to the Naval Academy like his brother Wyatt, or go to school in Jacksonville University in Florida. Marshal chose Jacksonville, but the choice does not preclude him from the Navy, as he will be in the Naval Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (NROTC). Marshal was awarded a full-ride scholarship through NROTC to Jacksonville University plus a monthly stipend. Why did Marshal choose Jackson University over the Naval Academy? “I didn’t want the amount of pressure to affect...

    Liz Wood|May 6, 2015

It's not unusual to see bicyclers traveling through Saratoga, since the town is located on the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail. Unless it is in April. Two bicyclists stopped in Saratoga April 26 and were enjoying some craft beer at the Saratoga Resort and Spa. They really didn't want to bike out to Saratoga Lake Campground after they day they had. • Roads, roads and more roads

    Apr 8, 2015

1 years ago: April 8, 1915 Why is a liar. This paper last week took exception to a county paper trying to take credit for condemning excessive expenditures by the County Commissioners of this county on roads and bridges. What we had reference to in particular, was the expenditure from 1908 to 1912, and which matter this paper called attention to, and for which we were abused by the Rawlins Journal, and one or two others. Now comes poor old “bad stomach Bill” of the Journal, taking all the credit, for being the paper to whom we had ref...

    H.B. Lawson|Mar 25, 2015

The Platte Valley got a dose of culture when Linda Perue held a silk scarf art class at the Saratoga Library and Pam Kraft held a class on silk painting at the Red Wagon in Encampment. Perue showed her students how to trace and color patterns on white silk scarves that, according to Perue, "can make very nice, personal and inexpensive gifts."
