A resurfacing project similar to that which motorists have been experiencing on WYO 130, north of Saratoga, has begun on Snowy Range Road. The area of the resurfacing project covers 14.3 miles; however, the actual work area is 16 miles because of posted signs, according to Kory Cramer, resident engineer for the Wyoming Department of Transportation. The town of Encampment would like to invite citizens to the 9th Annual Community Barbecue & Music in the Park where the Teka Brock Band will be performing. The community barbecue will be held from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. and the Teka Brock Band will be from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Aug. 1 at the Grandview Park in Encampment. Games provide laughter and socialization during the week. On Sunday afternoon, four residents played Dominoes with Pat Rust winning. On Tuesday morning, four residents played Yahtzee with Katherine Beckham winning. On Wednesday and Friday afternoons, residents played Bingo. I hope everyone had a good weekend and enjoyed some of the festivities. I enjoyed listening to the music and poetry at the Cowboy Gathering. Events coming this weekend are WhatFest in Riverside and the Mountainman Rendezvous at the Museum grounds. We had 40 people for our evening meal. It was good to see everyone. Melissa Broughton, who lived with her family on ranches in south central Wyoming and northern Colorado, including Gingerquill Ranch east of Encampment, recently self published a book about alcoholism and the cowboy lifestyle, "Cowboy Dad." Her father, Randy Broughton, died six years ago of alcohol related causes. Though the book is self-published, Broughton worked hard to maintain a professional product, which she largely credits to the help of a professional editor....
Dear Editor, Last Friday night [June 19], we attended the “Ride for the Brand” presentation by Red Steagall and Co. at your lovely Platte Valley Convention Center. Upon arrival we were greeted by some lovely ladies helping pass out and get tickets to interested attendees. WhatFest is back for 2015 on July 24 and 25. Accommodations are first come first serve and will be provided at Riverside Garage, where they can fit about 150-160 tents for the cost of a small donation to Riverside Garage. Lazy Acres is also first come first serve, costing $10.50 per night, per person. Hunter Mason, a 2015 graduate of Saratoga High School, brought home a second place trophy from the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Convention in Chicago, Ill. that took place June 29-July 2. The Carbon County 4-H Foundation has awarded three scholarships to Carbon County School District No. 2 students, which will be used for the 2015-16 fall semester.
