The town of Encampment would like to invite citizens to the 9th Annual Community Barbecue & Music in the Park where the Teka Brock Band will be performing. The community barbecue will be held from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. and the Teka Brock Band will be from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Aug. 1 at the Grandview Park in Encampment. On Tuesday morning, four residents played Yahtzee with Katherine Beckham winning. On Wednesday and Friday afternoons, residents played Bingo. I hope everyone had a good weekend and enjoyed some of the festivities. I enjoyed listening to the music and poetry at the Cowboy Gathering. Events coming this weekend are WhatFest in Riverside and the Mountainman Rendezvous at the Museum grounds. We had 40 people for our evening meal. It was good to see everyone. I hope to see more smiling faces at next month’s dinner. As always, the coffee group kept us up to date. Melissa Broughton, who lived with her family on ranches in south central Wyoming and northern Colorado, including Gingerquill Ranch east of Encampment, recently self published a book about alcoholism and the cowboy lifestyle, "Cowboy Dad." Her father, Randy Broughton, died six years ago of alcohol related causes. Though the book is self-published, Broughton worked hard to maintain a professional product, which she largely credits to the help of a professional editor....
We are back! Hello Everyone from the Sagebrush Senior Center. We have had a few changes along the way. Our Site Manager Ronda Krouch has left us to move on to bigger and brighter things. Hunter Mason, a 2015 graduate of Saratoga High School, brought home a second place trophy from the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Convention in Chicago, Ill. that took place June 29-July 2. The Carbon County 4-H Foundation has awarded three scholarships to Carbon County School District No. 2 students, which will be used for the 2015-16 fall semester. Receiving a $500 scholarship as graduating seniors were Marshal Hill, a Saratoga student, Harold Jackson, an Encampment student and Shelby Bowen, a Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow student. Summer is finally here with vacations, floating, camping and barbecues. But it’s not fun if someone you love is in the hospital and there is no blood on the shelf. Here, in the southern part of Wyoming, it takes 500 people a week to donate blood to serve the 47 area hospitals in this region. One out of every three people will need blood during their lives but only one in 20 people regularly give blood. The Saratoga Museum will be hosting The Spirit of the West Band to celebrate the life of Charles Alonzo Kennaday 1856-1940. He was a homesteader at Cedar Creek in 1883 and resided in the Valley for 57 years with his wife Elizabeth. This will be open to the public at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Saratoga Museum. Encampment Spanish teacher, Mr. Ricks, will be hosting a one-time screening of The Cokeville Miracle on Tuesday, July 14th at 7:30 p.m. at the Platte Valley Community Center. This film is based on actual events that took place in 1986. A madman and his wife took an elementary school in Cokeville, Wyo., hostage in hopes of gaining ransom money.
