  • Speech and debate has win streak upset

    Madeline Weiss|Updated Feb 23, 2016

The Saratoga Speech and Debate team's winning streak was interrupted in Rawlins this weekend when they took second place to Greybull. "We had a number of our strongest underclassmen home sick this last weekend, which really drives home to me that our success is not just contingent upon the performance of our upperclassmen," said head coach Jake Mickelsen. Still, the seniors did not let the team down with Jacob Dickinson taking first place in Drama, Mariah Scharosh taking...

  • Third time's a charm:

    Liz Wood|Updated Jan 19, 2016

The winning fish wasn't the biggest fish that has come out of Saratoga Lake, but with a score of 35, it was the winner for this year. Tammy Guerra, of Parker, Colo., could be the first woman in the 33-year history of the fishing derby to win the tournament. The chamber has records back to 1993, and the only woman to place in the top three was Encampment's Maureen Zeiger, who won third place in 2012. Not only does Guerra have a $2,000 check to take home, she has a pretty good f...

  • Getting your Greenery Winter-Ready

    Abby Perry|Updated Oct 20, 2015

This time of year the air is beginning to cool and pumpkin spice flavoring is hitting the shelves. It’s time to think about how to give your yard and garden the care they need to get through the winter months. It is important to water trees and shrubs throughout the winter months, especially if there isn’t good snow cover. Water on days with little to no wind when temps are above 40 degrees and when the ground is not frozen. The combination of these circumstances probably equates to about once a month. Winter watering is imp...
