Gospel singer Steve Desmond is returning to Saratoga for another performance this New Year’s Eve. Desmond, a senior pastor and accomplished singer from Greeley, Colo., brings a wide variety of music styles to the Platte Valley. Community choirs in Saratoga and Encampment are performing Christmas concerts this month. The Saratoga Community Choir is performing at 4 p.m., Sunday at the Platte Valley Community Center Theater. The Encampment Community Choir is presenting its 16th annual Christmas Concert at 7 p.m., Dec. 18 at the Encampment Opera House. Musician David Moran is returning to Saratoga. Moran, who has played at Las Vegas casinos, on Alaskan cruises and on riverboats in Sacramento and Cincinnati, said he is very excited about returning to Saratoga. Starting Nov. 16, the Grand Encampment Opera Company will host its second annual Murder Mystery Dinner. “It takes place in the Old West after a big poker tournament,” said Vicki Loftice, a board member of the Grand Encampment Opera Company. Above, Dick Weber, of Coupeville, Wash., was in Riverside visiting his daughter Margaret Weber, owner of the Bear Trap. He made a stop to the C.J. Box book signing at the Saratoga Museum Saturday. Weber, who has been carving caricatures for 40 years, said his daughter convinced him to carve Joe Pickett, the main character in Box’s book series. On Aug. 17, you can honor a fallen war veteran by running. Saratoga resident Joe Elder is hosting the Platte Valley Trout Run, a 3.2 mile run in Saratoga, to honor Tyler Pickett, a war veteran who lost his life in combat June 8, 2008 in Iraq. Elder said he will also donate all the proceeds to aid in the completion of Tyler Pickett Park. Jack Berger prepares to rope the heel of a calf Saturday at the Carbon County Fair in Rawlins. Berger and his team participated in the Rancher’s Rodeo Saturday afternoon. His team won the event with a time of 2 minutes 4.7 seconds.
