  • Thompson 'closes the book'

    Mike Armstrong|May 29, 2019

Kathy Thompson did not start out her professional career in library science or even education. Thompson, who hails from Montana, studied restaurant management, received an associates arts degree and founded her own establishment in Ennis, Mont. Thompson said the town was a major fly fishing destination near Yellowstone National Park. She said the town’s economy was seasonal. “I did very well,” Thompson said. “But the season is only for about four months and I felt in a vicious cycle, making...

  • Glasser leaves on a 'high note'

    Mike Armstrong|May 29, 2019

Pam Glasser is known to many inhabitants in Carbon County as a music teacher. To fellow musicians and concert goers in Wyoming, Houston and Israel, Glasser is acknowledged as an accomplished French horn virtuoso. Glasser may be extremely accomplished on the French horn, but she plays other instruments, including some she makes herself. Her love of music is second only to her love of teaching music appreciation to the new generations. She has been teaching in Carbon County School District No. 2...

As the school year ends, Sheldon is leaving Wyoming and moving to Washington D.C. to teach music in the nation's capital. Sheldon said he started playing the piano when he was five. "I used to play by ear," Sheldon said. "My mother used to play the song "The Rose" by Bette Middler and I just loved it when it dropped down from the g to the c. It was like a big arrival moment and I wanted to replicate that."...

  • Being a Bighorn

    Joshua Wood|May 22, 2019

Walking into Jordan Seitz's classroom at Encampment K-12 School, it is obvious he enjoys the outdoors. The 6th grade homeroom is decorated with furs and skull mounts. A bulletin board on the west side of the room holds articles written about the bighorn sheep captures that Seitz and his students have helped the Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) with along with photos from those captures. It's because of that work that Seitz, along with Brady Samuelson of Riverton Middle School, has been...

  • Set to serve

    Joshua Wood|May 22, 2019

For many students, time after graduation is plentiful as they spend the summer preparing for college or trade school. Others, meanwhile, will enter the workforce. A select few, however, make the choice to follow what most would consider a higher calling to serve their country. In Saratoga and Encampment, four students will be doing just that as they join the armed forces. From Saratoga Middle High School (SMHS), Takoda Pedersen will be joining the Air Force and Shianne Baker will be joining the...

    Joshua Wood|May 22, 2019

For 36 years, Mo has been teaching Family and Career Science at Encampment K-12 School, along with teaching at Saratoga Middle/High School (SMHS) for the 2018/2019 school year. Mo has taught for 47 years all told, having started her teaching career in Fort Washakie. Mo is not a native to the Valley, though you wou... Full story

  • Mixing education

    Mike Armstrong|Mar 20, 2019

Students that learn at home have different reasons to do so. It is not necessarily popular with public school administrators that have small school populations to begin with, but in Carbon County School District No. 2, (CCSD2) there is an effort between the school system and parents to make sure the students get the best education no–matter where they actually sit down and learn. A Principal's View Traci Schneider, principal for Elk Mountain, Hanna and Medicine Bow elementary schools said she w...
