  • Tap Dancing

    FW Broschart|Oct 19, 2016

The Saratoga Water and Sewer Joint Powers Board (sewer board) met Wednesday after a month without a regular meeting to dispense with accumulated business. The sewer board debated whether or not it had the authority to grant permission for a tap for the waste transfer station that is under construction. Board member Russ Waldner said the ordinance made it unclear to him whether the sewer board could unilaterally approve a tap without the involvement of the town council, since the transfer station is outside town limits. Waldner took issue with t...

  • Planning commission draws the line

    Max Miller|Sep 21, 2016

"How do we divvy this up?" Saratoga Planning Commission member Will Faust asked at a Sept. 13 meeting of the group. Perhaps the quintessential question of planning, Faust was referring in this case to Saratoga's area of influence or town buffer zone, which must change to reflect new statutes from Cheyenne. The buffer zone, also called a realm of influence, is an area outside of but in close proximity to town limits. As enforced in the past, this zone extended one mile beyond town limits to form...

Hefley was presenting at an August 16 meeting of the Saratoga Town Council to explain why unfiled paperwork with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had left the town without an applicator for much of the summer. FW Broschart|Aug 17, 2016

The Saratoga Water and Sewer Joint Powers Board (sewer board) met Wednesday to deal with routine business, but the long-running issue of the sewer line running under Hwy 30 that is causing issues for local business owners became murkier as Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) waded into the fray. The sewer line that serves Happy Tails Dog Boarding and the Saratoga Feed Store has been problematic for months, with complaints to the board going as far back as March. According Pam Waldner, owner of Happy Tails, the sewer line backs up...

    Max Miller|Aug 17, 2016

Now all that’s left to figure out is who owes what. As reported at a June 19 Saratoga Town Council Meeting, the total price tag for the project was around $660,500, but 90 percent of that cost was assumed by the federal government and an additional 6 percent was c...

Margaret Weber, owner of the Bear Trap and council member, abstained from the vote. The board also discussed aerial spraying for mosquitos. Earlier in the month, the...

  • Wind tax resolution tabled

    Max Miller|Jul 13, 2016

The text of the resolution, written by Rawlins City Attorney, Amy Bach, was read at a lightly-attended July 5 Saratoga Town Council meeting. “We’re already the only state in the union that’s taxing wind energy and now they want to tax it more. Well, I guess my thoughts were that that’s probably a bad idea,” mayor Ed Glode said in suppor...

  • Budgeting time

    Max Miller|Jun 29, 2016

A sleepy agenda and the necessity of reading several lengthy budgetary amendments verbatim may have kept attendance down at the June 21 Saratoga Town Council Meeting. Johnson has served on the board since October of 2014 and had a full year left in her three year term, which was set to expire in July 2017, but...

  • Summer business

    Max Miller|Jun 15, 2016

With one eye warily on the “sensitivity of funding at the state level,” Saratoga Mayor Ed Glode said it would be unwise to allow a loan and grant package to go unused. The loan and grant, to make improvements on the Saratoga lagoon system, was under discussion at a June 8 town council meeting attended by about 20 residents. “There’s a laundry list of things that we can do to improve our system with the overall goal obviously of being compliant and having a discharge that’s as clean as possible,...
