Saratoga sawmill draws closer to production

As the production date for the Saratoga sawmill draws closer, there are still a few more positions to be filled. The mill currently has 30 employees but needs 80 by its start date later this month
“Finding enough employees was a concern, but it is turning out good so far,” Saratoga Forest Management owner, Gary Ervin said. “There are not many spots left, but there is always room for good help.”

STARS program help students transition to Junior High

The transition from sixth grade to seventh grade is tough. The level of difficulty and amount of work means students must spend more time and be more organized.
In the past, many students have had to deal with those changes on their own, but thanks to the new STARS program, Encampment seventh graders know a handful of students, and a teacher, will always have their back.

Robert (Bob) Everett Hobart

Robert (Bob) Everett Hobart, born Feb. 23, 1924 died Nov. 27, 2012. Hobart was the husband of Judith Ellen Masnari.
A graduate of Colorado School of Mines, Geology, Hobart was also a retired Lt. Col., USMC Reserve. He worked as a geologist for Chevron Oil Company in Denver, Colo., and retired in 1985.

Garland Bartlett Sr.

Carbon County native and longtime rancher, Garland Bartlett (Sr.) passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 at Valley View Care and Rehab Center in Saratoga at the age of 93.
Garland was born on Aug. 19, 1919, in Rawlins to Garland P. Bartlett and Pearl Ellen Frisby. He married Elsie B. Williams, of Encampment, on May 29, 1942, in Encampment. They subsequently had 5 children, 4 of whom are still living.

Carole Jean Kirk

Carbon County native and long-time businesswoman Carole Jean Kirk, 79, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at the McKee Hospice Center in Loveland, Colo., following a year-long battle with cancer.

Snow finally closes passes

WYO 130 over the Snowy Range between Saratoga and Laramie closed on Friday afternoon, breaking a quarter-century record for the latest date to swing the gates.
The previous record was Dec. 5.
The following day, WYO 70 over Battle Pass between Encampment and Baggs closed.
The roads were closed due to high wind and snow over the weekend.

Energy efficiency grants available until June

The State Energy Office Small Business Energy Audit and Renewable Energy Assessment grant funds will be available to Wyoming businesses until June 30, 2013.
The Wyoming Business Council State Energy Office, in partnership with the University of Wyoming Extension office and Manufacturing-Works, offer funding and technical support to entities pursuing an energy audit and renewable energy assessments.

Togie buries Miners, scratched by cats

With a new offense in place, the Saratoga Panthers picked up one win during the Carbon County Classic Tournament this weekend.
The Panthers lost to Cokeville 48-61.
Saratoga held a one-point lead over Cokeville after the first quarter but Cokeville dominated the rest of the way after a second-quarter burst.
Senior Ben Gates led the Panthers with 16 points and five defensive rebounds.
