Jay Shogren and the Shanghai’d were selected by the Wyoming Blues and Jazz Society to represent Wyoming at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn. Jan. 30 through Feb. 2.
After an executive session to discuss personnel and matters of litigation, the town council approved a motion to allow Mayor John Zeiger to act on behalf of the town in a court hearing against Randy Stevens on Friday.
Prior to going before the judge, attorneys for the two parties settled on a tentative deal that is contingent on both sides signing the agreement.

4-H Shooting Sports is ready to load up for its 2013 season. Those interested can sign up Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. at the Saratoga Library. A safety film will be presented, followed by a short informational meeting.
Air rifle and pistol shooting will start Jan. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Platte Valley Community Center multipurpose room on Spring St.
Community Block Service Grant funds from the Tripartite Board for the Emergency Health Program became available to Carbon County Public Health Jan. 7.
The grant funds are renewed yearly and usually last through the summer. They can be used for medical and dental services, eye care, pharmacy expenses and mileage for trips to and from clinics or hospitals out of town.
This column was supposed to be about New Year’s resolutions, but it is probably going to end up going to the dogs. Either way, much has already been written about both subjects.
I am disorganized when it comes to New Years’s resolutions. I’ve never started a positive change on Jan. 1 and stuck with it much longer than a week.
Mark your calendars for the Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce’s 30th annual Saratoga Ice Fishing Derby. Angler’s will have an opportunity to compete for the $2,000 first prize for catching the largest fish during the two-day derby, Jan. 19 and 20.
While competing for over $7,000 in cash prizes, fishing skills will be on display.
Hourly cash awards of $100 will be awarded for the largest fish measured that hour.
The Carbon County School District No. 2 Speech Team began their season in December with the novice meet in Cheyenne Dec. 1.
Taylor Russell and Jacob Dickinson, both of Encampment, earned first place in their humor round in duets. Both are members or novice members of the speech team.
On Dec. 7, the speech team travelled to Green River and returned with the 1A-2A Sweepstake Trophy.
Lynn Holly Kendrick and Kyle Brandon Norman were married in an outdoor ceremony Sept. 30 at Monet’s Place in the Hudson Gardens of Littleton, Colo. Terry Ash officiated the double-ring ceremony.
