Bringing the Sun to Rawlins

For more than 137 years, the Saratoga Sun has served as the newspaper of the Platte Valley. Through various owners, it has also tried to serve other parts of Carbon County as well. Now, under new ownership, the Sun is making a committeemen to expanded coverage.

Power Company of Wyoming renames power station

When presenting updates on its natural gas plant project south of Rawlins on January 6, Power Company of Wyoming was asked by the Board of Carbon County Commissioners to consider a name change.

On the job experience

With the hopes of increasing their amount of summer help, department heads from the Town of Saratoga have created the Saratoga Internship Program. At the January 7 meeting of the Saratoga Town Council, Director of Public Works Emery Penner presented the idea to the governing body.

Sun Shines in Multiple Categories at WPA Convention

The Wyoming Press Association’s (WPA) 127th Annual Winter Convention was held at the Ramkota Hotel in Casper where the Saratoga Sun came away with more recording-setting wins. This year, the staff of the Sun walked away with 26 Pacemakers which are awarded individually to newspaper staff for the quality of their work. It also won three major awards.

County Commissioners Select Free Newspaper for Official Publication

For the second year in a row, the Board of Carbon County Commissioners have selected a free newspaper as their official publication.

The Carbon County Comet, a free publication with less than 500 paid printed subscribers, also submitted the highest bid at $5.40 per column inch. The commissioners voted unanimously on January 6 to go with the Comet after unsealing bids on December 16.
