Club Notes: Platte Valley Kiwanis celebrates 23 years

The Platte Valley Kiwanis sponsored two scholarships this year — Levi Weatherd, from Saratoga and Gaven Pantle, from Encampment. The Kiwanis wishes them the best of luck in the future.
The Platte Valley Kiwanis hosted their 23rd birthday party at the Whistle Pig with dinner, entertainment from the Carbon County School District No. 2 Speech team, gifts and drawings.

Club notes: Officers installed at American Legion Auxiliary meeting

The American Legion Auxiliary installed eight elected officers at its recent meeting May 21.
The election of officers was held by mail in ballot. Officers elected were as follows:

Birthday dinner Friday

There were six at the Saratoga Senior Center to play Bingo Tuesday. Two-dollar winners were Winnie Allen, Dorothy Miller and Pat Faust. Madaline Forbes won the $5 blackout round.
There were two-and-a-half tables for Duplicate Bridge this week. High winners were Pat Bailey and Vivien Campbell. Second high went to Marilyn Walck and Mariel O’Grady.

Deseret has new administrator

At Deseret Health and Rehab, residents enjoyed many activities throughout the week. The Activity Department offers a wide variety of activities each week to meet the residents’ interests, as well as the physical, mental and psychological well-being of each resident.

Reflections: Large flying lizard found 100 years ago

Winged Lizard
Under date of June 16 a dispatch from Casper says that Dr. F. Salathe and D. van Wagner, geologists, have discovered a perfect silicified skeleton of a very large flying lizard. It measures about 70 feet in length and has a spread of wings nearly 80 feet. This discovery was made in the fossil fields about 18 miles from Casper.

Bolhuis/Wood wed

Garry Wood and Mirthe Bolhuis were married in a private ceremony May 27, 2013 in Lewisburg, Tenn.
Attendants at the ceremony were Masha Schenkel, of Groningen, Netherlands as the bride’s maid and Stephen Glithero , of Hertford, Hertfordshire, England as the best man.
Garry is a 2008 graduate of Saratoga High School and Mirthe is from Groningen.
The couple sings together as “The Bird & the Bear.
