I was thinking a lot about this week’s column. Initially, with this edition of the newspaper coming out on Oct. 31, I thought about trying to write a spooky ghost story or examine why some of us love horror movies so much. Then I thought about writing something in regards to the recently arrested Florida man who mailed 12 packages to prominent politicians and activists. Instead, I have decided to focus on the importance of civics and voting with the general election being next Tuesday. Since s...
Editor, Election time is November 6th. I am writing to remind everyone how the dismal state Saratoga’s financial affairs came to be. The previous mayor had entered into a lawsuit with Randy Stevens that even the insurance company would no longer honor and left Saratoga financially vulnerable. Over a quarter million dollars was spent out of the reserves that I know of for sure. The current Mayor and Council are still paying on the remnants of this. The town is also financially responsible (court ordered) should that $70,000 wall ever fail c...
Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow High School (HEM) football team started out looking like they were going to have another win under their belt against the Burlington Huskies going into the 2nd quarter. The Huskies had not scored with six minutes left in the first half and the Miners were up by 22 points. Then the sheer physical size difference between the players started to kick in. "This was the most physical team we have faced all year," Zach Scott, head football coach said. Burlington...

Their second game on Friday against Kaycee did not go quite as well as they lost 3-2. The fifth, and deciding, game of that...

By Joshua Wood Wyoming is not a small state. With a length of about 360 miles, a width of 280 miles and sitting at 97,814 square miles it is the 10th largest state in the nation. With a goal of completing the 450 miles in two weeks, Noah has been focusing on the running while Molly has been going ahead and getting the word out. "We're originally from Mont...
The Saratoga Council of Catholic Women is sponsoring a community blood drive on Tuesday, Nov. 6 from noon until 5:30 p.m. at St. Ann’s Parish Hall. According to Vitalant (formerly United Blood Services), more people would donate if only they knew the importance of blood. Doctors use blood only for one reason: to sustain life. And, there is no substitute for blood. It cannot be manufactured. It is the ‘gift of life’ that only human beings can give to one another. “Blood donors save lives,” organizer Val Larscheid said. “Several of them, in fa...
