Quickly becoming a fall tradition, the Potato Harvest began in 2021 through SAREC, a UW Agriculture Experiment Station located in Lingle, Wyoming. Last week was a busy one for the Lady Panthers volleyball team, with three matches in the span of four days. They played an away match with Hanna Elk Mountain on Tuesday, October 17th, hosted Little Snake River Valley at SHS on Thursday and then traveled to Niobrara County the next day for a 1:00p match. Saratoga High School cross country travelled to Cheyenne on Saturday, October 21, for the 2A State Championship. Panther runner Marilee Williams finished in 3rd place overall in the Women’s Varsity event. That finish placed Marilee on the All-State team for the fourth straight year. The top Panther in the Men’s Varsity was Bennett Keel finishing in 14th place. Senior runner Tyler Greenberg took 22nd in his last cross country meet for SHS. It was a tough end to the regular volleyball season for the Encampment Lady Tigers as they were dealt two losses on Thursday and Saturday while on the road. On October 19, the Lady Tigers were hosted by the Rock River Lady Longhorns where they went 1-3. Two days later, on October 21, they were hosted by the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Lady Rattlers where they fell in three sets. The regular six-man football season came to an end this past weekend for the Encampment Tigers, who ended their final game in spectacular fashion. On May 10, 1869 the two ends of the transcontinental railroad were connected during the Golden Spike Ceremony held at Promontory Summit in the Utah Territory. More than 150 years later, on October 22, people in Saratoga were greeted by the sight of a large golden spike in town.
