    Joshua Wood|Oct 9, 2019

Members of the public were greeted to a truncated meeting of the Saratoga Town Council on Oct. 1 as the only items on the agenda included roll call, approval of the bills and adjournment. Mayor John Zeiger, following the Pledge of Allegiance and roll call, offered a limited explanation for the short public meeting. "Due to circumstances this past week beyond the control of Town Hall, it was necessary to cut this council meeting short," said Zeiger. "What we're required to do by law is to pay the...

  • Moving forward with billing

    Joshua Wood|Oct 9, 2019

As has been the case in recent months, the events of the Saratoga Town Council seemed to influence the discussion for the Upper North Platte River Solid Waste Disposal District (UPRSWDD) the following night. Meeting on Oct. 2 in Saratoga Town Hall, Chairman Randy Raymer repeated his desire for a consolidated billing program operated by the solid waste district. “Given the situation at the Town of Saratoga that I think we’re all very well aware of, I think, from our board’s perspective, it’s...

  • What it takes to call Wyoming home

    Joshua Wood|Oct 9, 2019

This past weekend was one of those rare times when there wasn’t an event that I needed to cover nor were there any home games. With that in mind, and my birthday on Monday, my family and I decided to head out of town. Whenever we get a chance to take a road trip, Telitha and I often end up talking about the various towns one finds along the way. Some of them, like Jeffrey City and Bosler, are essentially ghost towns. Others, like Bairoil and Medicine Bow, continue on. Before moving to S... Full story

  • Tigers dealt loss by Fleming

    Joshua Wood|Oct 9, 2019

With only a handful of games left in the season, the Encampment Tigers ventured down to Colorado over the weekend where they were hosted by the Fleming Falcons in Briggsdale. “Fleming is the No. 2 ranked team in Colorado,” said Kegan Willford, head coach of the Encampment Tigers. “They execute very well and don’t make a lot of mistakes. They are an example of where we want Tiger Football to get to in the future.” In taking on the second ranked team in Colorado, the Encampment Tigers struggled...

  • Lady Panthers add two more wins

    Joshua Wood|Oct 9, 2019

If the slim loss to the Cokeville Lady Panthers the weekend before was still on the minds of the Saratoga Lady Panthers, it didn't show as they added two more wins to their season while on the road. On Tuesday, Saratoga was hosted by the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Lady Miners (25-13, 25-19, 25-21) and secured a second win against the defending state runner-ups. Saturday, the Lady Panthers traveled to Rock River where they were hosted by the Lady Longhorns (25-18, 25-20, 25-20) and...

  • Panthers claw into Vikings

    Mike Armstrong|Oct 9, 2019

Guernsey-Sunrise (Guernsey) High School football team got mauled by the Saratoga Panthers 59-0 with 46 points scored in the first half. The weather was windy and spitting rain, which could have been a sign to the Vikings that they were going to have a tough time in Panther land. The Panthers kicked into the strong wind where the Vikings took it and got up the field in a few plays. Then with 8:45 left in the first quarter, Justin Shotwell recovered a fumble. The Panthers took advantage and,...

  • Putting it all together

    Joshua Wood|Oct 9, 2019

The Encampment Lady Tigers had a rough weekend as they played three games over three consecutive days and came away with three losses. Despite that, several sets in those games went into extra points. That gives Robin Brown, head coach of the Lady Tigers, hope for the future. "The Tigers are doing really great things and are putting good sets together," said Brown. "We are struggling with confidence right now, which is making it difficult to finish an entire game." On Thursday, Encampment was...

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School football team went to Sheridan to play the Normative Services Academy (NSI) on Friday and crushed the Wolves, 66-12. “NSI is a team you never know what you are going to get,” Head Football Coach Zach Scott said. “There is an influx of kids that come and go, but they had some really good athletes on the team we played. They are a team that hits pretty hard.” Scott said the Miners got on the board quickly and soon the score was heavily...

  • Coffee and a Smile

    Kassidy Barr|Oct 9, 2019

“Kassidy, come check out this bathroom!” says Patty as she’s walking towards me, pointing to the bathroom. I thought this was a little funny because who wants a visitor to go see a bathroom? Once I walked in I realized why she wanted me to see the wonders of the Sagebrush Senior Center bathroom. You walk through the doors into a forest of aspen trees, like a trip down Aspen Alley. Directly in front of the door is two color changed aspen trees with a mama bear and two cubs hugging the tree in the center. Once you move your eyes to the left there...
