Saratoga Chapter #12, Order of Eastern Star is starting their 2015-2016 year off with some great projects and new members. The Chapter will be collecting donations for the Feed Wyoming and local food pantries throughout the year. The annual Bridge and Pinochle card tournament is scheduled for Sept. 27 at noon. This tournament is for anyone interested and for those who have played last year. It will be held at the Masonic Lodge, 112 W Rochester, with prizes, food and tons of fun! Mayor Ed Glode said the town of Saratoga has hired a new Director of Public Works. Jon Winters, of Douglas, has accepted the position and is scheduled to start work on Sept. 21 Glode said. The Saratoga Town Council was expected to ratify the hiring at Tuesday night’s meeting. Winter has experience with the permitting process, as he worked in the uranium mining industry, Glode said. There was very nice turnout for the 55 alive driving class on Wednesday. Most of them stayed for lunch so that helped our count. Graduate student Alex May at the University of Wyoming provided a presentation on his study of Snowy Range moose population and how it has been affected by the bark beetle kill this year. So far, results have shown that the Snowy Range moose have slightly higher body fat than those in Sublette County (6.7 percent as opposed to 6.1 percent). The study required the capture of 30 female moose, of which one was a yearling. They will be recaptured five times during the course of the study in order...
The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) released preliminary information on their investigation into the death of Dave McConnell. According to OSHA, “Preliminary information suggests the deceased lost his footing and fell while trying to descend from the log deck (which is an elevated structure).” McConnell, a 65 year old Encampment man, died as a result of the accident on Aug. 27.
