As described by local author C.J. Box, the road to becoming an internationally best-selling novelist can be long and potholed. Like many faint two tracks winding through the checkerboard, that road can lead to unexpected delights, or peter out in the wastelands, leaving the ambitious motorist in the middle of nowhere with a busted oil pan. With a trivia event celebrating his creations going on in the background, Box sat down for a 15 minute interview with the Sun Aug. 13. Sporting his trademark...
Earlier this summer, over 10,000 trout got helicopter rides to their new homes in Snowy Range Mountain lakes. As a University of Wyoming Extension Educator, I enjoy the opportunity to travel throughout our state during every season of the year. We have beautiful, wide-open space; albeit some of it appears desolate. However, the space itself is filled with life: trees, grasses, shrubs, and animals. Water is what sustains it all. This past year, as I traveled, I became more observant and began to detect nature’s nuances. Small details were of particular interest to me. Of course, I noted lush, verdant grasses in some parts of the state and withered, b...

At the Green River Invitational Cross Country meet, “We had four guys run faster than our top guy ran last year,” said Saratoga cross country coach Rex Hohnholt. Though the Panthers rested several athletes, the team saw big improvements in times across the board, leading Hohnholt to describe the team as being two weeks ahead of where they were at the start of last season. The Panthers’ best finisher, however, was newcomer Encampment freshman Reid Schroeder, who blazed into a second place 5k fi...
