One in three Americans will need a blood transfusion over the course of their lives, but only one in 20 people regularly donate blood to help fill this vital need, according to a recent news release. With last week’s resignation of information specialist Palma Jack, the Rawlins library was left unable to open its doors to the public for the July 1 beginning of fiscal year 2017. In response to the resignation, Carbon County Library System Board (CCLSB) members held an emergency vote July 1 to shutter the Rawlins branch until they’ve had a chance to discuss the situation at their next meeting July 6. A trio of researchers reported encouraging results from a 2012 to 2015 water quality study conducted upriver of Saratoga on the North Platte and its tributaries. Senator Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) announced an internship in his Washington, D.C. office and is encouraging students from all areas of study to apply by the deadline of July 15. “An internship in my office is rich with opportunity and provides students with firsthand knowledge and experience,” Enzi said in a news release. A couple years ago my husband enrolled in some entomology classes at the University of Wyoming. He would come home and say things such as, “All these years we’ve been calling ladybugs by the wrong name; they were actually ladybird beetles,” and “All bugs are insects, but not all insects are bugs. At first, I thought he was a little loopy, but the more he talked, the more interested I became. For class assignments, he was supposed to collect insects to aid in identification and classification. Dear Saratoga Sun, I would like to apologize to the patrons of the Rawlins Library. I was not there today to unlock the doors and welcome you. I was not there to help you with the computer, answer your questions, or direct you to the local businesses. At this point the Main library no longer has enough staff to operate, let alone provide services to the other seven branches. There is no one to process new books or items for any of the libraries.
