  • Walking the Lincoln

    Mike Armstrong|Updated Jun 26, 2018

The Lincoln Highway enters the state from the east on U.S. 30 at Pine Bluffs and, established in 1913, was America's first coast-to-coast highway. Much of the route in Wyoming today is dirt and gravel and is impassable for much of the year, but in celebrating Ft. Steele's 150 year birthday, a historic walk was hosted by the National Park Service on Saturday. The walk was on parts of the original road near Ft. Steele that went by the Platte River where remnants of a bridge...

  • Aprons on

    Joshua Wood|Updated Jun 26, 2018

For nearly five years, the little building at 117 W. Bridge has been home to Sweet Marie's Bakeshop. On any given day, except Sunday, between 6:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. one can find the small structure hosting a handful of residents or tourists hoping to get a caffeine fix, a cupcake for the road or buffalo-shaped sugar cookies. While the demand for the services of owner Marie Christen grew, the building located between Saratoga Auto Parts and Strong Tower Designs couldn't. Marie,...

The late American astronomer Carl Sagan once said "The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself." Sagan was not only an astronomer, but a science popularizer and communicator who served as a spokesman for the sciences. Recently, Lesley Urasky served a similar role at the Saratoga Branch Library, informing those in attendance that we were all "made of stardust." On June 21, starting at 8:30 p.m., the Saratoga Friends of the...

  • Carbon County makes you tough

    Mike Armstrong|Updated Jun 26, 2018

It is no secret I have lived in a fair amount of places in my life, but I really don't think I have ever lived an area that can have such different weather that is less than 40 miles apart. This includes going from coastal/tropical environments and traveling inland to nearby mountains that are higher than what we have in the Snowy Range. Hanna, Elk Mountain and Medicine Bow in the north of the county often have very different weather than what is in the Valley. This was...
