One of Wyoming’s most revered vo-ag teachers and agriculture educators, Jack Humphrey, died March 16th, 2018, from injuries sustained in a golf cart mishap at a golf course near Parker, AZ. John E, (Jack) Humphrey was born to John and Ruth Humphrey on March 12, 1937, in Emerson, Iowa. Rebecca (Becky) Kerbs, 63, passed away March 18, 2018 in her home on the family ranch in Saratoga, Wyoming. Becky was born December 1, 1954 in Las Cruces, New Mexico to Steve and Miriam Ducsai. She was the youngest of three sisters, and the family lived in several places across the country before settling outside of Denver, Colorado where she grew up, fell in love with horses, and became involved in the precision mounted drill team, the Westernaires. The dictionary defines era as a long and distinct period of history with a particular feature or characteristic; a system of chronology dating from a particular noteworthy event; a date or event marking the beginning of a new and distinct period of time. Sinclair Wyoming Refining Company has recently donated four automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to complete installations at all Carbon County School District No. 2 (CCSD2) campuses. An automated external defi brillator (AED) is a lightweight, portable device that delivers an electric shock through the chest to the heart. The Mangy Moose Bar and Grill will play host to a benefit crawfish boil this Saturday. This event, which has moved around to different locations over its five year run, will feature cajun cooking including crawfish, shrimp, gumbo, jambalaya, and red beans and rice all complemented by sides including hushpuppies and cornbread. The Saratoga Town Council met an hour before the usual time Tuesday, meeting at 5 p.m. on March 20. Mayor Ed Glode and the town council members held the meeting earlier so all could attend the South Central Wyoming Emergency Services (SWCEMS) monthly meeting being held at the Platte Valley Community Center at 6 p.m. The town council approved regular business and the financials. The Saratoga Sun received word on Monday that a scam, operating under the guise of satellite provider Dish Network, is targeting Valley residents. Dawn Senior-Trask, of Encampment, informed the Sun on the morning of March 26 that she had received a call from someone claiming to work for Dish Network offering a software update for her satellite receiver. The Medicine Bow Town Council met at 7 p.m. on March 12 at the Medicine Bow Community Hall. The council approved the minutes for the agenda and paid the bills. The Saratoga track team left the Panther Den this weekend to compete in the Natrona Invite in Casper. At the end of the meet, one Panther and one Lady Panther would qualify for State in two events. Lady Panthers Mychaela Jackman placed 8th in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 54.08 seconds. The Encampment Tigers and Lady Tigers ventured up to Casper over the weekend to compete in the Natrona Invite. At the end of the meet, another Encampment Tiger would be prequalified for State.
