    The town of Saratoga will know exactly what they are getting into before they begin to fix erosion problems in the Upper North Platte River near Veterans Island. The town of Saratoga has applied for two Federal Emergency Management Agency grants. If awarded, the money will fund erosion repairs in two sections of the river near Veterans Island.     Editor, The last edition of the Saratoga Sun blew me away. For years and years my favorite column has been the reflections from the archives from the Saratoga Sun.   • Kudos to the Council

    Thanks to the Saratoga Town Council. After hearing public complaints, the council made changes to its agenda and meetings. Issues were discussed openly by council members. Employees of the town were asked to explain processes and procedures during its reports. The Saratoga Sun commends the Saratoga Town Council for this action.     The last time I walked into the Event Center in Casper was for the State Wrestling Meet exactly 20 years ago. Back then I was a contestant in the meet and all the teams came through the doors in the back of the complex. All the busses for all the teams in the state still line up in this parking lane to drop off wrestlers, coaches and team managers.     Road work and tree removal could cause short-term delays for travelers wanting to drive on roads in Medicine Bow National Forest the Brush Creek/Hayedn Ranger District. Contractors have been hired to cut and remove trees in the forest that may be hazardous to visitors.     The Carbon County School District 2 (CCSD 2) Board of Trustees appointed four of its board members to the new Board of Cooperative Education Services (BOCES) Wednesday at its monthly meeting. Tanya Bartholomew, Diane Berger, Joe Gaspari and Bob Patton will serve on the BOCES board. Thursday, Bob Gates said Western Wyoming Community College (WWCC) will appoint a board member.     Wilma Kurtz passed away after a short illness on Feb. 11, 2013 at the age of 99. Wilma was in Tomball, Texas at the time of her death. She was born on July 14, 1913 in Redfield, S.D. to Burness A. and Lola Mae (Tharpe) Blake. Wilma spent her summers in Encampment. Wilma graduated from Midwest. She married Dale M. Burgess in 1931 in Midwest. She married George Kurtz in Nebraska in May 1963.     The Wyoming Game and Fish Hunter Safety Education classes start Monday March 4. The first class will be held at the Encampment School library from 7-9 p.m. The Encampment school is at 514 Rankin Ave. Participants will register at the first class and are reminded to bring a pen or pencil to the classes. Neville and Wallace volunteered at Bridge Street Bargains to raise money for Close-Up.     Band and choir students from Saratoga, Encampment and Hanna -Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow (HEM) high schools combined forces last month to perform in an all-school concert.
