  • New floor afoot

    Sue Howe|Updated Jan 26, 2016

Four people played Bridge Monday with Sue Howe as the high winner and second high going to Gertrude Herold. We are still looking for more Bridge players, so if you have a free Monday afternoon, come join us. Our new floor was installed this weekend and it looks great. We had several people pitch in and help move furniture on Tuesday, so the old floors could be buffed. I could not believe how fast it went. The new floor is installed in the dining room and it looks great. We still have the kitchen, restrooms and my office to...

  • Winter Carnival is here

    Kim Loftice|Updated Jan 26, 2016

As we come to a close for January, which I feel should be a practice month for the new year, we will see what Punxsutawney Phil will have to say whether we have six more weeks of winter or not. However, we live in Wyoming not Pennsylvania! I wonder what our Speaker of the House (Connie Beckham) will have to say about that. I guess her delegates Laura Rettelle, Patty Herring, Karen Dibbern, Arleigh Simmons, Linda York, Monty Hobbs and Mary Priquet (whom I have forgotten to mention in the past two articles —I apologize), may ju...

  • Warmed to the glow of electric fireplaces

    Tom Mansfield|Updated Jan 26, 2016

The facility’s activity program is based on residents’ interests and allows residents to achieve greater self-esteem. It provides continuing contact with the community because of the many volunteers that assist residents in activities. We received three electric fire places that we had ordered, using donations from the community. Our Maintenance Director has installed two—one at the end of the hallway in the A-wing and one in the front resident lounge area. Games provided fun and laughter throughout the week. On Sunday after...

  • Restitution, deer killers, 'Togie ranked No. 1

    Updated Jan 26, 2016

1 years ago Jan. 27, 1916 Killed calf The following this week was received from H. D. Blydenburgh, of the Jack Creek Land and Cattle Co., which contains some very unusual information: We have just had an experience that we do not believe has ever happened to any other stockman in this valley. A short time ago we received a letter from a former resident of the valley, asking if we were owners of cattle bearing a certain brand, that ranged on Jack creek, twenty six years ago. We answered him that we were, and that we still...

  • Panthers look to conference games

    Erik Gantt|Updated Jan 26, 2016

"I'm really proud of these boys. I'm really proud to be their coach. They play hard every game and that shows their character," was coach Jason Williams' takeaway from last week's basketball games. On Jan. 19 the Panthers boy's varsity team (0-2 conference, 1-10 overall) played at Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow (6-5) in a game that got to within one point. In the end the Miners bested the Panthers 37-49. Williams reported that after a slow start the Panthers fought bravely in...

  • Lady Panthers are family

    Erik Gantt|Updated Jan 26, 2016

Lady Panther head coach Scott Bokelman has been diagnosed with thyroid lymphoma and his Panther family has his back. A moment of silence in support of Bokelman preceded Saturdays game at Encampment. Heather Bartlett has stepped in as interim head coach and said, "One of the things we say all the time in our huddle is 'family,'" adding that the team and the coaches are praying for and supporting Bokelman and his family. A mid-season change in coaching staff is always disruptive...

    Madeline Weiss|Updated Jan 26, 2016

Thatcher Spiering grappled his way to first place in the 152 pound weight class last weekend, disrupting top Greybull wrestler Cole Hill’s undefeated season. Spiering won against the tough competition in double overtime, going into the match knowing that if it went into overtime, he would take the win. Head coach Jared Mason described the match as “really exciting,” especially considering it had been a goal of theirs to defeat Hill after losing to him the week before. Five...

    Liz Wood|Updated Jan 26, 2016

After coming off a homecoming sweep, the Lady Tigers are going to have a challenging week as they play Little Snake River (LSRV) and Rock River. While both Encampment and LSRV have only suffered one loss each, to Cokeville, Rock River beat Cokeville earlier in the season. The Encampment Lady Tigers (1-1 conference, 11-12 overall) are going to have to work hard this weekend as they try to hold their No. 2 spot in conference against Little Snake River (1-1, 10-4). • Tigers rack up three wins for homecoming

    Liz Wood|Updated Jan 26, 2016

When a coach has four or five players who are scoring in double digits, it makes it difficult for the opposing team to figure out who to guard. "That's a sign of a good team," head coach Clint Bromley said. The Encampment Tigers are pretty happy to have three wins behind them from the weekend, Bromley said. The Tigers (2-0 conference, 12-1 overall) beat North Park 88-44 Thursday night. The highest score the Tigers had to date was 85, which is the highest score in the state...

  • Bringing home the 'big cup'

    Liz Wood|Updated Jan 26, 2016

Thirty years is a long time in between Editorial Leadership Awards. When Gary Stevenson told me we needed to write more editorials three years ago, my response was: "We are too diverse to agree on anything." You should hear some of the arguments we have in this office. No matter who the reporters are, we don't always agree, but we started finding ways to agree on something. This year, we finally brought home the Editorial Leadership award for our work in 2015. The last one...

  • Mill fire contained to one machine

    Liz Wood|Updated Jan 26, 2016

An arc from a welding machine started a fire at Saratoga Forest Management (Saratoga Mill) early Wednesday morning. According to Saratoga dispatch, the fire department was called out at 1:39 a.m. Wednesday. “It could have been much worse,” Saratoga Mill’s owner Gary Ervin said. “Fortunately, we keep the area pretty clean.” The millwright was working the night shift welding a small piece on the board edger end feed table, Ervin said. “It only was about an inch weld, but i...

Over $2,500 in prize money is up for grabs this year for events like the treasure hunt, the Sixth Street Sprint, sledding, saucer bowling, snow golf, the bread coo...
