1 years ago November 4, 1915 Bridge Collapses The fifty-foot span of steel across Spring creek, a mile south of Saratoga, collapsed Monday, when the work of finishing the flooring was in progress. The I beams and stress iron on the west side gave away first and the bridge gradually went down until it rested in the creek, twisting nearly every iron in the structure. Six cowboys from the Silver Spur Ranches - Headquarters will compete in the 20th World Championship Ranch Rodeo in Amarillo, Texas which will be held from Nov. 12 to 15. On Oct. 26 and 27 Carbon County Road and Bridge crews made repairs to Forest Service Road 261 (FSR 261) also known as the Cedar Pass road. During the rest of the week they removed trees around the Flying Diamond bridge on Carbon County Road 680, the Baggot Rocks road. The American Legion Auxiliary met at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 20, 2015 at the American Legion Post home. Seven members were present. The Platte Valley fall sports season ended with all kinds of results. Cross Country placed second in the state. Our football team did not make it to the post season. Cooler weather and snow in the mountains has prompted fire crews to begin preparations for slash pile burning at multiple locations across the Medicine Bow and Routt National Forests (MBRNF)in Colorado and Wyoming. Many citizens have complained publicly about the lack of daycare in Saratoga. Lorraine L. Cruse went to be with her Lord Jesus at 1:45 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 18 following a seven month battle of cancer. Lorraine was born in Studly, Kan., on Jan. 27,1924. Katherine M. Beckham passed away on Oct. 30, 2015 at the Saratoga Care Center in Saratoga at the age of 77. Katherine was born on Aug. 12, 1938, in Encampment. The daughter of Clifford and Irene Wombacker. She married George D. Beckham on Nov. 19, 1955, in Encampment. Her and George worked together for years building fences on ranches, and being caretakers at the Wyco Club and Cohns ranch on the river.
