Encampment Elementary K-12 School receives a $5000 grant for the Blessings in a Backpack program. State winners were named at the 2016 Wyoming Make It With Wool (MIWW) Competition held on Dec. 4-5 at the Parkway Plaza Hotel in Casper. First place in the Junior Division went to Ashlynn Johnson of Encampment who modeled a 4-piece ensemble including a teal/green/brown bouclé wool coat, teal asymmetrical-style jacket, ivory shell top, and tailored brown slacks. Bridge Street Bargains (BSB), the Saratoga thrift store, has created a new scholarship for graduating seniors at Saratoga High School and home-schooled students are also eligible. Permits to cut Christmas trees on the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests are now available at multiple locations in Colorado and Wyoming, according to a press release from the U.S. Forest Service. Each permit costs $10 and allows for the cutting of one tree on National Forest System Lands. There is a limit of five permits per household. Trees must be for personal use, and cannot be resold. After the Saratoga Museum’s season ended in October, the docents got a behind-the-scenes tour at South Pass City. The tour was led by Jon Lane, Curator for Public Programs, for the state of Wyoming Department of State Parks & Cultural Resources. The group met with Lane at 9 a.m. and toured the Carrisa Mine. The Giving Tree, a project to help provide Christmas for valley children who otherwise might not have much of a holiday, will be held again this year and the the deadline for families to return 2016 application forms for their child to be included is Thursday, Nov. 17. The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) will be holding auditions for its original adaptation of “The Princess and the Pea” at Platte Valley Community Center (PVCC). According to a press release from Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD), black bear hunt area 9 was closed for the season Oct. 5. The area was closed because the mortality limit for female bears was reached on Oct. 5, according to the release. Black bear hunt area 9 is bounded by the Colorado state line to the south and Interstate 80 to the north.
