  • State Champion Chariot Races cross finish line in Saratoga

    Saratoga is the host for the Wyoming State Championship Chariot Races this year, taking the place of what would have been the 35th annual Donald E. Erickson Memorial Chariot Races. The races will begin March 7 at 1 p.m., at the Buck Springs Arena east of Saratoga. Post time March 8 is at 11 a.m. Much of the weekend will be familiar to race goers as the Saratoga Lions Club plans to have the Calcutta on at 8 p.m., March 6 at the Hotel Wolf.     The Carbon County School District No. 2 Speech Team took the 1A/2A Sweepstakes Trophy at the Rawlins Speech Meet last weekend. Jacob Dickinson took second place in oratory and Lydia Smith took fifth. Dickinson also advanced to semi-finals in drama. Robin Gloss and Larissa Ford won three of four rounds in Public Forum. The girls missed advancing to semi-finals with three other teams because of the other opposing teams with the same record had won against stronger teams.     The amendment to the Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance for the town of Encampment was passed after it’s third and final reading. Town Clerk Doreen Harvey stated the only change in the third reading was that the attorney’s advice that the term “alcoholic liquors” be replaced with the term “alcoholic beverages”.
