  • The counsel of women

    Mike Armstrong|Nov 3, 2021

Wyoming is known as the Equality State as it was the first in the United States to give women the right to vote. There may have been some self-serving reasons by men in power during that time but, from that time in 1870 when women voted in Wyoming, the United States went on the track of equality. The 19th Amendment was ratified in 1920 and all women could vote in the country. On March 22, 1972, the Equal Rights Amendment was passed by the U.S. Senate and sent to the states for ratification....

The Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers are closer to the state championship after they took the Kaycee Buckaroos out of contention on October 29, racking up a score of 62-8. The 8 points scored against the Rattlers happened in the 1st half on a long run. Head coach Jack Cobb wasn’t upset since LSRV had a couple scores already, but he didn’t want to see any more points scored. The defense dug in, and the Buckaroos saw no more points. “Kaycee is a physical team and their quarterback (Harley...

  • Good to be together again

    Mike Armstrong|Nov 3, 2021

The Wyoming Hospitality and Tourism Fall Summit was held in Sheridan on October 20 and 21. The common statement made by leaders and attendees was how good it was to have the conference in person instead of by Zoom, which happened last year. "I was so grateful we had Zoom and other virtual networks to stay connected," Wyoming Office of Tourism Executive Director Diane Shober said. "But face to face is so much more engaging when you see the full person. Body language is important to non-verbal...

    Mike Armstrong|Nov 3, 2021

Garden boxes are at the new community garden site and the Hanna Agricultural Resource Committee (HART) is working hard to get them ready before winter sets in. There are 31 boxes in total, which had been supplied by C. J. Mahon Construction. The company made a deal with HART and Carbon County School District No. 2, which owned the land where the former community garden resided. If they could have the land for their cement manufacturing site, the construction company would build HART a garden...

  • It is time for movies

    Mike Armstrong|Oct 27, 2021

I have always enjoyed Western movies, for the most part, but I have to admit, in recent weeks I have become almost addicted to them. It started when I bought two different collections. One was a James Stewart bundle, all Westerns. I guess I have always associated him with “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “Philadelphia Story” so I didn’t realize he had done quite a few Westerns. I bought the set because it had the movie “Rare Breed”. I was pretty young when it came out but I had some vague memory fr...

A Panther team won in the battle between Saratoga High School and Wright High School on October 15. Unfortunately for Saratoga, it was the Wright Panthers. If the Saratoga Panthers had won by 9 points, they would be in the chase for the playoffs. Due to turnovers, Saratoga will not be competing. “We have some physical kids that will get in there and make the plays and mix it up but, the score being 32-14, those turnovers cost us,” Head Coach Logan Wright said. “Next year we will be older but tha...

  • Miners working to lay a foundation

    Mike Armstrong|Oct 13, 2021

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Miners are living proof winning isn't everything to have a successful season. The Miners have literally been down to six men to play six-man. The team has even had to forfeit at times because three players were out at the same time making it impossible to field a team. This adversity has not dampened the teams' spirit and it shows when they get on the field. Brady Oltmans, editor of the Sublette Examiner and the Pinedale Roundup, has mentioned the...

  • The Purity of a Community

    Mike Armstrong|Oct 6, 2021

It is sometimes hard for me not to miss the life I had overseas because, often, it was a lot of fun. At one point I was writing for a magazine where my job was going to different nightclubs in Taipei reviewing their “Ladies Night.” My work at the magazine was part-time because I lived in Taichung, a three to four hour bus ride away. Back then the train was not much faster. although that has changed. Using the ‘Bullet Train’, a person can be in Taipei from Taichung in an hour-and-half. The oth... Full story

I thi...
