Saratoga High School celebrated Homecoming last weekend, and what a great time for the Panthers football team to put together their most complete game of the year. Saratoga proved a rude host to visiting Guernsey putting 54 on the scoreboard while only allowing 8. All three phases of the game were controlled by the Panthers in the dominating victory. Shut down defense by Saratoga was the theme of the night, starting from the opening possession by the Vikings. Over the course of the evening the...
Saratoga volleyball faced off with Rock River last Friday afternoon at 4:00 in an away match. The Lady Panthers may have been caught looking ahead to the big match up with valley rival Encampment the next day and dropped the match 3 games to 1. Several players turned in solid performances, keeping the opening two games tight, winning the third, before losing the deciding forth game. Gillian Creed contributed across the board with 18 assists, 22 digs, 4 kills and a block. Allie Condict had 13...

On a beautiful early Autumn evening - perfect for football - at the Saratoga High School Stadium, the Panthers opened their season against Moorcroft High School. The Panthers kicked off and after forcing a punt by the Wolves took over on offense at their own 35. Then, on the very first offensive play of the 2023 season, sophomore quarterback Burris Berger hit Snowdon Williams with a nice pass and the freshman running back took it to the end zone for a 65 year touchdown. Saratoga punched in the...

The Cowboy State lifestyle can be pretty tough on our vehicles. Winter weather, dirt roads, the nature of the work that pushes our economy and the Wyoming idea of recreation, pile dirt, grit and mud both inside and out. A clean car makes a happy driver, but it means more than just pride of ownership; it has a direct impact on the value of any vehicle. Enter Tate Terrill of TMT Detailing. Tate started TMT in Baggs last November. Initially it was just something of a side hustle to fill the gap whe...
This week we are introducing a special page in the Saratoga Sun for kids called Kid’s Scoop. This is developed by a retired college professor and designed to engage elementary age students with some educational and fun features that will promote reading. Reading is something we can just take for granted; maybe pass by the importance since it seems second nature to us. But not to all of us. There is an unfortunate incidence of kids reading behind grade level in our schools nationwide. Students w...
Opening bells rang across Carbon County School District No. 2 on Monday morning signaling the start of the 2023/2024 academic year as parents captured “First Day” memories of their children. First day for CCSD2 staff members, however, began early. Preparation by the administration, faculty and staff began well before students arrived at the six district schools. On August 18, at the Platte Valley Community Center, the 200 employees of the school district gathered for an assembly to kick off the...
Schools have opened here in Saratoga, and throughout Carbon County District 2. An exciting time really. New year, new teachers, new experiences, old friends, new friends. The kindergarten students are off on a new journey. The seniors are moving into the final days of this one and now just a few short months away from beginning the next. One thing that has been on my mind in recent weeks is that the schools here must be a very special place. I say that because twice in the past month, people...
This was my first Saratoga Days. Despite being a working day, covering the events from the Neal McCoy tour bus pulling in at about 7:30am to Neal’s performance, I did enjoy myself. Mostly though I ended the day impressed by the event, by everything. All three music acts were great; the bluegrass boys, West King String Band, That 80’s Band were a cover band of the highest quality, and then the headliner Neal McCoy. I felt that if you weren’t a Neal fan at the start of the show, you probably were...
The Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) High School will be getting a new agriculture education center, the groundbreaking for which was held on July 12 in Baggs. Members of the Carbon County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees and representatives of the engineering and construction companies were in attendance. Others in attendance included FFA officers and students from LSRV High School. The new facility is expected to be completed in February 2024. Federal funding, of $1.7 million, was...
Hello to all the subscribers, readers and advertisers of the Saratoga Sun. My name is Gary Honodel and I was recently appointed to be the publisher of this great newspaper. It is quite an honor. Virginia Parker will be staying on at the Sun. I'll let her address this in her own words, but will say that while she did want to achieve a more flexible schedule, she is also dedicated to our local paper. I sort of think of her as the Air Boss, a Navy carrier position that might not be flying the plane...
