    After nearly 32 years of service in the Platte Valley, Sue Bartlett is stepping down from her position as public health nurse supervisor for Carbon County Public Health. Barlett plans to officially retire from her position Jan. 2, 2014, but will be completely filled by Toni Rietveld, who began her first day Nov. 4.     The town of Encampment had a short council meeting Thursday, covering winter street cleanup and the Emergency Water Supply Project.     The Saratoga boys' basketball team was an unstoppable scoring machine Friday, slamming the local rival, Encampment Tigers, with a score of 80-60. Playing on their home turf Friday evening, the Panthers (5-0) maintained a wide lead for much of the game, scoring high with 24-11 at the end of the first quarter, and 64-40 at the end of the third.     The Encampment Lady Tigers, who won only one game last year, proved they could be heading for a major turnaround season after a 56-28 win over Saratoga.     Two Saratoga wrestlers achieved first-place rankings at the Soroco Invitational Saturday.     Another local Christmas-based Giving Tree has recently been created, but this time with the goal to help needy homeless animals in Carbon County. Platte Valley Ranch Supply in Saratoga set up its first annual "Pets in Need Giving Tree", meant to benefit temporarily homeless animals living at Caring, Learning, Connecting Rescue and Rehabilitation (CLCRR) in Rawlins, or the Rawlins Rochelle Animal Shelter.     The Saratoga varsity boys basketball team achieved three wins at last weekend's Carbon County Classic, showing they had the skills and determination to claw their way to the top.     Although Saratoga High School's football team didn't qualify for the playoffs this year, four of the Panthers were able to receive All-State, All-Conference or Honorable Mention recognition for their 2013 season efforts. The football honorees were announced in November, and from those, senior running-back Tate Stinson was the proud Panther to make All-State for the All-Class 1A 6-man team.   • Platte Valley Habitat Partnership mule deer projects approved

    During a Nov. 14 meeting in Laramie, the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission (WGFC) approved $112,864 from the Platte Valley Habitat Partnership (PVHP) Fund for projects to benefit Platte Valley mule deer. Matching funds for each of the five projects were applied for in early fall, and the Game and Fish Department is awaiting approval from identified sources.
